The GREat Thesis and Dissertations Workshop (WTDG) is a forum dedicated to the presentation and discussion of master and doctoral's studies in progress in the Group of Computer Networks, Software Engineering and Systems - GREat. The objective of this event is to provide a constructive environment for discussions between novice researchers and more experienced researchers.

A team from the Federal University of Ceará was selected as the finalist of the Brazilian edition of the 15th Imagine Cup, known as the World Cup of Technology. The event is sponsored by Microsoft and aims to stimulate the entrepreneurial spirit of students around the world.

The UFC's VibEye project was one of 199 enrolled projects from various public and private universities across the country in areas such as applications, games, smart devices and social networks. The UFC project will compete in the final with another 14 finalists from May 15 to 18 in Fortaleza.

The jury will evaluate aspects such as innovation, use of technologies and proposed business model, as well as testing from the prototypes. The two best projects will compete in the world final in Seattle (US), competing for $ 100,000 and the chance to receive support from the global giant in the implementation of the project.

The team that developed VibEye is composed of students Samuel Lima (Electrical Engineering), Múrcio Filho (Computer Engineering) and recent graduate Felipe Feitosa Soares (Computer Engineering). The team has as mentor Prof. Danielo G. Gomes (Department of Teleinformatics Engineering) and has the support of Marcondes Alexandre, a UFC Virtual technical-administrative server, and Michelle Cacais, a master's student in the Post-Graduate Program in Teleinformatics Engineering.

 

The new space of the Research and Development Laboratory for Design and Mobile Computing of the Group of Computer Network, Software Engineering and Systems (GREat), linked to the Department of Computing, was inaugurated this Thursday (23), resulting from a partnership with The Korean industry LG Electronics. As Rector Henry de Holanda Campos said, this is "another victory of one of the poles of excellence of our University".

"It is difficult to measure the gains that result from LG's investment in GREat in 10 years of partnership," said Prof. Rossana Maria Castro de Andrade, laboratory coordinator. Representing LG, the director of the Department of Research and Development, Yun Hwan Rho, came to the ceremony; The research manager, Marcelo Bozzo; And Software Manager, Carlos Toneto. Also present at the event, professors Raimundo Nogueira Costa Filho, director of the Science Center; Francisco Antônio Guimarães, president of the Cearense Foundation for Research and Culture (FCPC); And Miguel Franklin Andrade, coordinator of GREat.

The Computer Network, Software Engineering, and Systems Group (GREat), linked to the UFC's Computer Department is inaugurating a new space, attached to the Research and Development Laboratory in Design and Mobile Computing of Block 942-A, in the Campus Of Pici. The annex is a result of the agreement signed between UFC, FCPC and LG Electronics of Brazil.

On the night of Thursday (9), the Cearense Foundation for Research and Culture (FCPC) celebrated its 40th anniversary. The commemorative agenda included the awarding of the Icaro de Sousa Moreira Academic Merit Medal, created to honor members of the university community who stand out for their political and administrative leadership and for their commitment to scientific research and innovation.

The GREat, through Professor Danielo G. Gomes, will participate in the coordination of WPerformance 2017.
